Life goes on...

Good grief! I decided to blog thirty minutes ago and I JUST NOW figured out how to put up a new post! Getting old stinks...I can't remember how to do anything any more!!! Now I've already forgotten what I was going to BLOG ABOUT!  Not to mention, I couldn't remember my password because I keep having to change it and I couldn't find the piece of paper I wrote it on! Ugh...well now, let me see if I can gather my thoughts...

Amy is officially over-due now and the only one who knows when Henry will make his appearance is God. After all, HE created Henry so it only makes sense that HE would guide him out! Henry has been prayed for by so many people over the past nine months that I know the timing of his delivery will be nothing less than perfect!  I cannot WAIT to see Amy as a Mother!!!!! She will be amazing and a natural at it with her calm, cool demeanor and LOVE of children. I am really looking forward to this new chapter of life...can't wait to be a Lolli!!!! :-)

Ali and Louis seem to be settling in nicely at their new place. I'm so proud of her for venturing out fearlessly to check out new stores and restaurants...I'd still be locked in my new home afraid of strangers. I do that NOW and I've lived in Spring all my life! She told me yesterday that she felt 'at home' because she was shopping at Hobby Lobby...yes, she IS my daughter.

I turned 55 last Friday and enjoyed a fun day of lunch at the Cheesecake Factory with my long-time friend, Pauline, followed by a lovely dinner at Landry's with our children. I'm a creature of habit and I treasure our family traditions. The only thing missing was breakfast in bed with the girls, but sometimes things have to change. Maybe next year...  So far I haven't used my Senior Citizen Discount, but the day is young and I do get a 10% off at Ross on Tuesdays. Hmmm...today IS Tuesday so I think I'll check it out...and maybe whatever other Senior Citizen Discounts are out there. There ARE perks to getting older...things are looking up!!!

Never Going Outside Again!

Ugh...Kirby found a dead blue jay in our front yard tonight and guess who was working in the flower bed today? Yep, and I came back inside with at least 8 mosquito bites!!! Just googled symptoms for West Nile Virus and I "think" I'll be okay....not positive, but hopeful. Of course, NOW he decided to spray for mosquitoes...just a tad bit LATE!  After Kirby sprayed for mosquitoes he came inside and said, "I'm running to Walmart for a rat trap."  WHAT???? Yes, he saw a RAT run out from underneath my car in the garage while he was spraying for mosquitoes!!!!  I am about to lose my mind with worry that I'll be bit by a RAT infected with the West Nile Virus in my sleep tonight! Dear oh dear...

In other news, Ali and Louis moved to San Antonio yesterday and I cried myself to sleep. I'm much better today though. She's coming home this Friday for my birthday and once I realized it, I felt better. Plus, Henry will be making his appearance any day now and she will be home for that, also. Lots of exciting things coming up this week! Can hardly wait to meet my first grandchild!!! :-)

I'll Miss the Laughter the Most

Feeling super sad tonight. Our youngest daughter, Ali, is moving out of town next week. She and her husband, Louis, are newlyweds and Louis has been offered a wonderful career opportunity in San Antonio. I always thought Ali would live within a five mile radius of our home...selfish I know, but it's what I imagined. Probably because when she was younger she wouldn't even spend the night away from home...loved her own bed.  Our oldest daughter, Amy, is having her first baby (Henry) and our first grandchild in a few weeks, so of course I wish Ali was going to be nearby to watch her new nephew grow up. Things are changing so fast...sometimes I feel like I'm on a treadmill and it keeps getting faster and faster. I'll be turning 55 in a few weeks so that's one more change I have to look forward to...becoming a Senior Citizen without a Bucket List! Why is it called a Bucket List any way? It's not IN a bucket or SHAPED like a bucket.  Just asked Kirby and he said it's regarding things you want to accomplish before you "kick the bucket"....that makes total sense.  Kirby knows a LOT about a LOT of things...he's the King of Trivia. He's also a man of many talents. He built me a corner  breakfast bench for our 34th wedding anniversary and I LOVE IT! We often refer to our old house as the "Money Pit" because we have literally worked on it since we bought it nearly twenty years ago! If our home could talk it would tell of a loving, caring family who enjoys spending time together and laughing a lot!!! Which brings me back to Ali...I think the laughter is what I'll miss the most.

No Interest in Pinterest!

PINTEREST is addicting. It gives you the impression that if you glue wooden letters on a canvas and  paint it with beige paint, you will have a beautiful masterpiece to display in your home. I know this because I did it. However, instead of looking like a beautiful masterpiece, it resembled something a five-year old made in beginning art class. Pinterest also makes you think that you can pair a leopard print scarf with a hot pink top, blue skinny jeans and cowboy boots and resemble a 6' super model. Not the case...at ALL. I'm a 55 year old 5'4" woman with pale skin so that look will NEVER work for me.  I've also tried a few PINTEREST recipes, one of which I served at a dinner party. The BEST EVER Japanese soup tasted like a wet sock...not exactly what I was going for. I get a kick out of people who spend all their free time "pinning" things on their many boards and I wonder if they actually ever TRY anything they've pinned. Probably not, and it's a good idea. In my experience, Pinterest is better left on the board.

If You Crave A Piece of Cake, By All Means EAT IT!

Wow!!! What a FUN DAY!!! I was able to see an ultrasound of my grandson, Henry, along with Ali! So thankful Amy & Travis invited us to share in the excitement!! Henry had his back to us so we couldn't see his face, and he refused to open his legs...he is already a sweet, modest little guy just like his mommy. Amy is officially 9 months so Henry is ready to come out...now comes the waiting. The doctor said he has VERY LONG LEGS, a happy, healthy heartbeat and weighs 5 lbs 13 oz. She also said I need to get a whooping cough shot...ugh. Oh well, considering ALL that Amy has been through, this will be a piece of cake.  Great...now I'm craving CAKE! It just so happens I baked an angel food cake yesterday, so I'm heading downstairs to the kitchen. Eating dessert BEFORE dinner is legal at my age! :-)

Tiny Tidbits about Myself

My formal name is Kathy...not Kathryn or Kathleen, just KATHY. My friends call me Kat because I told them they could. I like the sound of it. I'm also a few weeks away from being a grandmother for the first time so I will also be known as Lolli. My husband will be called Pop...get it? Lolli + Pop = Lollipop! My favorite things are laughing, spending time with my family, snuggling with my puppy, Sparky, decorating our home, and cooking theme dinners. My favorite holiday is CHRISTMAS, hands down, and I keep our tree and decorations up as long as possible. I don't like the sun and wish I lived where it snowed year-round. I'm afraid of spiders, snakes and scary dogs with ferocious barks. I hate mosquitoes and the sound of smacking. I have a fear of drowning and even though we have a pool in our backyard I only swim when someone is with me. I'm turning 55 later this month and I know everything is "going South" but I'm okay with it because I have a super thick head of hair, so at least I'll never go bald. Looking forward to blogging more but the Olympics are on and it's time for the Men's Gymnastics. Go USA!!!
